A Christmas story.
Once upon a cold December night, an unlikely group decided to do something nice for many families on Christmas - give them all new bikes. That group? The Roadkill Cycling Club of Minneapolis. Hi. That's us.
On December 12, 2008, we realized many people have bicycles just sitting in their garages, collecting dust. Meanwhile, many families and children were in need of Christmas presents. We thought, what better gift than a free bike?
Starting that day, we asked friends, family and our communities to donate their used bikes. Within a matter of weeks, we collected over 250 bikes. Of that 250, we cleaned, lubed, tuned, and made 200 of them into great, shining gifts for children who needed them most.
Our 2009 campaign, "Good wheel to all, and to all a good bike" aims to help even more families this Christmas - in a time when more cheer is definitely needed. Next year, we plan on giving away thousands of bikes across the country, and even sponsoring a bike ride called Tour de Free.
We graciously thank the generous support of our bike donors and volunteer crews. Without them, hundreds of children wouldn't have had an extra special Christmas. We also thank Otten Brothers for their services and space to make our program great.
We look forward to seeing you and your bike soon.
Merry Christmas from the Roadkill Cycling Club
